1. Can I have more than one keypad
in the same zone?
Only one WCU500 keypad can be used per a zone however you can use as many
Opus SRC500 or LRC500 remote control handsets in the same room if you wish.
A WCU300 sub-zone keypad can also be used to pass IR back to the main zone
should you wish, or can be installed to independently control a second pair
of speakers.
2. How much does the 500 Series cost?
The final cost of any installed system will depend on your needs and your
property. As a benchmark, the Opus 500 Series multi-room system for four
main zones (rooms), including all keypads, amplifiers, loudspeakers and
master controller inc. radio tuner, is approximately £3,500/ 5,900€/ US$6,600/
as $11,000 excluding sales tax.
3. Why should I choose the Opus 500 Series?
The specifications of the Opus 500 Series Multi-Room System lead the market
providing audio and video functionality as well as integration with other
home automation systems. The keypad display features full feedback allowing
you to see which track or radio station you are enjoying and useful clock
and alarm functions. If you are even considering an alternative system make
sure it has full status feedback to a keypad display like Opus and radio
station display. This is vital for multi-room systems and many do not have
it or try and attempt it with a minimal number of disits. Opus 500 Series
is a stylish, expandable system at a much lower cost than comparable systems.
4. Do I have to use Opus speakers?
No, you can use most types and makes of speakers, although ours are a good
match as they have been optimised for the Opus system. A professional dealer/
installer can recommend the best solution.
5. Can I have the Opus 500 Series installed
in my existing house?
Yes, that should be possible although you may need some re-plastering to
allow cable fitting. Our expert installers can get wires in your walls using
special equipment in many cases without causing disruption or damage to
your walls or ceilings.
6. My house is already wired for multi-room
in a ‘home run’ configuration with Cat5 and speaker cable, can I still use
the Opus 500 Series?
Yes, by placing the DZM’s local to the MCU (hub). You can also use WCU300
sub-zone keypads with this wiring configuration which would also be star-wired
back to the DZM’s at the ‘hub’.
7. Is the Opus 500 Series difficult to install?
No, Opus provides a single cable (BTC1) which is easy to fit and provides
power to the whole system from the MCU.
8. Can I use my existing audio and video equipment?
Yes, Opus is compatible with the infra-red codes of virtually every brand
in the market with the exception of Bang and Olufsen which features a very
unusual high frequency IR signal.
9. How many pieces of audio equipment can I
plug in?
5 additional pieces of audio equipment can be plugged into a single master
control unit which features a built in RDS tuner. In addition, each zone
had its own local input so that you could plug-in an additional piece of
equipment in each room.
10. How many pieces of video equipment can
I plug in?
Using an Opus VSU500 Video Switching Unit connected to your MCU master controller,
you can connect up to five video sources (DVD player, satellite, set-top
box etc.) instead of the normal audio inputs or you can combine a selection
of audio and video sources. In addition, the VSU500 has a standby input
and a CCTV input.
11. Can I use an MP3 player or hard-disk server?
Yes, please ask your professional Opus dealer, or our technical support
team, for advice on this subject.
12. Can I use my PC as an audio source?
Yes, to listen to your PC through Opus speakers in only one room, you need
to have a “local input” fitted to that room when your Opus system is installed.
Should you want your PC to be a ‘source’ which is available to play through
your entire Opus system this can be done however you need to ensure that
a left and right co-axial cable is run from the PC back to the MCU500. In
certain circumstances and subject to certain regulations, it may be possible
to transmit the signal back wirelessly using either a pair of sender/receivers,
or by transmitting the signal over FM radio so that it can be received on
an unused frequency on the MCU500’s built-in radio.
13. Will I be able to see which music, artist
or radio station I am listening to?
Yes, the Opus 500 Series features full feedback between the MCU500’s built-in
radio and the Marantz DH9300 music server so information from these sources
is show on the WCU500’s keypad display. If you connect other equipment such
as a CD player there is no feedback on the WCU500’s display.
14. What is the 500 Series ‘party mode’?
“Party” mode allows you to switch on and off the music in every Opus-connected
room from any WCU500 keypad and also control the (same) music to every room
from that same keypad. Each room that is now playing music (except the keypad
in the room where you have set-up “party” mode) is now only able to control
volume and not the source audio equipment.
15. Will I have to use Opus BTC1 cable?
No, but its strongly advised in order to ensure optimum system performance.
You can cable using CAT5e and loudspeaker flex. See question 6.
16. How do I access the CCTV input on my video/tv
screens?
There is no button on the WCU, SRC or LRC however it uses a standard RC5
code that can be obtained from any Pronto type remote control (System 19
instruction 5). Please ask your professional dealer for further details.
17. What is the “telephone mute” feature?
If you plug a telephone jack into the “telephone mute” socket on yur MCU500
audio will automatically be muted when your telephone rings.
18. Can I integrate Opus with other home automation
systems?
Yes, you can add an Opus SCU500 Serial Control Unit to your system (located
with the MCU500) which will allow the Opus system to be interfaced to third
party control systems such as Crestron and AMX. The SCU500 is very well
specified and features RS232, RS422, and USB connections. N.B. Opus does
not control other systems.
19. Can I distribute a local input to other
Opus zones?
No, the local input can only be used in its dedicated zone. Also see question
12.
20. Why has my LRC stopped learning?
If the remote has been taught lots of different commands numerous times
into different banks its memory may become full. To resolve this problem
reset the LRC before starting to teach it new commands. If the problem persists
please call your professional dealer or our technical support team.
21. I have heard that the Opus 500 Series
system ham an alarm feature to wake me up in the morning, how long does
the alarm go on for?
The alarm bleeper sounds for 60 seconds
22. How do you turn off the alarm?
By pressing any button on the keypad or remote control.
